Physical Skills

During the initial interview with the Deaf teacher/staff at the TESDA Accredited Training Center, please provide evidence and demonstrate tasks.

  • Create a sign (Provide a sample)
  • It requires lifting their arms, manipulating their fingers, and rotating their wrists.

Applicants with physical limitations or chronic joint pain are not advised to enroll in a Sign Language Program that requires such movements.

Screening Interview

The Deaf Faculty of the Training Institution or the TESDA-accredited training center includes teaching staff and invited members of the Deaf Community (PFD Representative).

Applicants need to undergo screening conducted by Deaf individuals for various important reasons:

  • Deaf people must oversee Filipino Sign Language.
  • Assessing the applicant’s attitude is crucial.
  • Deaf individuals should be involved in all training stages, including the application process.

Interviews are required but won’t prevent applicants from passing or being accepted into the program.

Trainer Qualifications

The trainer qualifications for this Filipino Sign Language Services Level II require the following:

  • Must hold Trainer’s Methodology Certificate (TMC) OR have at least 2 years of experience in teaching Filipino Sign Language within the past 5 years.
  • Must be a college graduate of any course.
  • Must have undergone Training in Sign Language Teaching, including FSL Linguistics and Teaching Methodologies.
  • Must have an understanding of other sign languages and communication modalities.

A. Deaf Trainers:

  • Must be able to teach Filipino Sign Language subjects and be culturally “D” Deaf to ensure integration of cultural aspects and use of the community’s current language.
  • Must have been involved with the Deaf community for the past 5 years.
  • Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience within the past 5 years.

B. Hearing Trainers:

  • Must be able to teach subjects requiring both spoken and visual language proficiency.
  • Must have a background in interpreting for at least 5 years.
  • Must have a recommendation letter from a member of a national or federation of Deaf organizations.
  • Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience within the past 5 years.
